We watched the Perseid meteor shower's annual August 12/13 peak this year from atop Mount Pinos at 8,500 feet. It was GREAT !
Things started off slow, and many of the hundreds of onlookers left the parking area before 1:30 am when the real fireworks started.
 The sky was perfect--jet black with the Milky Way glistening straight overhead.  From around 2am until about 4am, we saw a meteor
streak across the sky every minute or less; some were simply fantastic and bright.  Here's some daytime shots of our little camp
and the hike to the top of the peak at 9,000 ft over looking the valleys below.  You can see smoke from the Zaca fire in the
background.  Dee had a great time on her first visit to Mt. Pinos.  She'll really like it when I get that new 15" travel dob ;-)
